CHARITY

Steven William Sutton

Memorial Welding Engineering Technology Endowed Scholorship

My son, Steven, passed away on July 3, 2023, at only twenty-six years old from a rare form of brain cancer in his brain stem and cerebellum, which also traveled to his spine. It was a long year of treatment before he succumbed to this terrible disease, hence my writing hiatus. My husband and I have started a scholarship in memory of this witty, smart, and caring young man with his alma matta. We will also be starting a scholarship for a student from his old high school who will be studying in a STEM field. Below is information about Steven and the scholarship. Our initial goal is $25,000. If you find it in your heart to donate to a worthy cause, we would be so honored.

Spirit and Intent of Scholorship

The Steven William Sutton Memorial Welding Engineering Technology Endowed Scholarship was established in 2023 by Lisa and David Sutton in honor and memory of their son, Steven, a 2019 Welding Engineering Technology Alumnus. Steven was known for his sense of humor, love of music, and inquisitiveness, which shone through at a young age. His parents knew early on he would end up in an industry that involved figuring out how to make things work, and they weren’t wrong. As a high school student, Steven knew he wanted to pursue his degree in Welding Engineering Technology. He researched the best schools in the country for Welding Engineering, and that’s how he found Ferris State. After graduating from Ferris State, Steven began working at Fronius as a Welding Applications Engineer, first outside of Dallas, TX, then in Portage, IN, kick-starting a career he loved. Steven’s sense of humor flourished at Ferris, thanks to his new friends who he remained close to ever since. Even in his last waking days, his humor shined through every day. The Steven William Sutton Memorial Welding Engineering Technology Endowed Scholarship will support Welding Engineering Technology students, who, like Steven, are passionate about their future careers in Welding Engineering.
